About Us: What We Believe

Our Mission

The mission of the Episcopal Church on Staten Island is to share the Good News of God’s Grace with all, inviting everyone to join a community where all are welcome, regardless of individual or collective differences. We believe that a real relationship with God is possible in our time and place, and that God’s Holy Spirit is alive, and capable of being known in our hearts and lives in ways that make a meaningful difference. We welcome all, without reservation or distinction.

The Episcopal Church
on Staten Island

The Episcopal Church embraces the richness of the Christian tradition and the fullness of human experience. We are a mystical, evangelical, intellectual, and charismatic community, recognizing each of these elements as essential to our identity. We honor scripture and tradition while acknowledging past faults and the ongoing need for growth and renewal as the world and human needs evolve.

We believe that human intelligence is a gift from God, meant to be used fully—to learn from our mistakes, expand our understanding, and navigate new paths forward. Our emphasis is on what we hold in common and can accomplish together, not on getting everything “right” or on what divides us. This spirit of openness and shared purpose is one of our greatest strengths.

Sacraments

The sacraments are at the heart of Episcopal worship and life. They are tangible signs of God’s grace, love, and presence in our lives. Through these holy acts, we are nourished in faith, strengthened for service, and drawn closer to God and one another.
